My name is Ray Shively. This website was created in order to exchange genealogical data with other interested family-researchers. The most common surnames contained here are listed in the “GEDCOM Statistics” below. This site’s pages are generated from a MySQL database by PhpGedView as you request them. There may be a slight delay as the data loads, however the information is always up-to-date with my research.
I have been interested in our family history for many years and have been collecting information. However, I have only been organizing it since early 2005. Fortunately, I have found several other family members interested in genealogy that have done extensive research on particular lines of the family. I take no credit for their work with the Letterst, Masters, Mitchell, Schwarz, Utz, Sheriff, Shivley & much of the Shively families. Almost all of my information contained here is from secondary sources. I am continuing to gather information and primary sources - any help you can offer would be deeply appreciated. Use the contact link at the bottom of any page. In order to protect the privacy of living members of our family, you will need a user name and password to see information on living individuals related to you. You will also need to log-in to see the source material. Although I have been careful, I am sure there are mistakes contained in this material, in both typos and relationships. I would be deeply appreciative of individuals who email me with any further information and/or corrections.

DNA links Adams County, Ohio Shiveley's to Kentucky Shivley's
7 July 2009 - 12:09:18am Ray Shively's DNA testing has verified what has long been suspected. Daniel Shiveley of Adams County, Ohio born about 1782 in Pennsylvania is almost certainly a son of John Shivley, Sr. who died in 1839 in Pendleton County, Kentucky. The line has been tracked back to Jacob Schäublin born about 1650 in Waldenburg, Switzerland. This information is included here in this database. Daniel Schaublin, John’s grandfather, and his family and brother immigrated to Philadelphia on September 28, 1749 on the ship Ann. Alice Shivley Freed has done much of the research on the Kentucky family line. She has recently published a book The Family of Jacob Schäublin and Maria Martin, Waldenburg, Switzerland, 1650 and their Shively, Shiveley, Shivley Descendents.
Extensive New SHIVELEY Genealogy Material!
26 March 2009 - 11:32:44pm Paula Conlee Keet SHIVELEY has spent the better part of the last year organizing the 30 years of SHIVELEY genealogy research compiled by Carolyn Shiveley HAWS. All of this extensive genealogy information on the descendents of Jacob SHIVELEY is now available on this web site.
New Interactive Tree
26 March 2009 - 11:32:16pm You will notice that there is a new tab labeled "Tree". This is a interactive tree. It is a very useful tree that allows you to navigate around the tree rapidly by simply dragging it.
New Mapping Function
26 March 2009 - 11:28:46pm I have recently installed a new version of the software that runs this web site. There is a very useful mapping function which has been implemented. Check out the “Map” tab on any individual. If the map you see has any errors, please let me know and I will fix it. If you don't see this marker but see a flag, there is most likely an error. It is impossible for me to check out all 19 thousand people to see if their map is correct.
Another DNA close-match found.
21 November 2008 - 4:22:11pm Scott SHIVELY received his 12 DNA markers back on 3 Jan 2007. It is very interesting that he is one mutation different than Raymond SHIVELY's result (at DYS#393). Remember that James Mack SHIVLEY, Sr. is one mutation different than Raymond's line at the DYS#385a marker. From what we understand one mutation difference means there's a significant chance of a common relative somewhere back in the line. John SHIVLEY, Sr. (born 21 Nov 1753) is the common relative between Raymond and James. Now comes the difficult and interesting part. What is the connection between Scot's line and Raymond & James' line? Scott's line includes Martin SCHËIBLE born 1770-1774 and died before 1810 who married Elizabeth HOFFER on 17-April-1798 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. Martin and Elizabeth had four known children: 1) Benjamin SHIVELY born Sept 1799. 2) (?) SHIVELY born about 1800. 3) Martin SHIVELY (born around 1801). and 4) Daniel SHIVELY (born in 1810). The 3 brothers all moved to Richland County Ohio (1830-1840) and by 1850 Scott's Martin SHIVELY was in Delaware County, Indiana. Benjamin and Daniel were living in Starke County, Ohio. If anyone can help unravel this quandary please contact me.
